Guest Comments

Over the years our appreciative guests have filled three guest books with their tales of happy times spent at Le Mas. We’ve collected some of their comments here:

  • Thank you for an incredible stay at Le Mas, Hearing stories from the Hillyards about their visits over the years had us excited to come, and it still exceeded expectations. It was everything we imagined French living to be! Slow mornings with pasties, long lunches, swims in the pool, card games by night and canoeing on the river. We’re leaving relaxed refreshed and very grateful for the wonderful company.

  • We had such a lovely time in Le Mas. We especially enjoyed the swimming pool, sunshine, relaxing days, the nature surrounding us, visiting all the towns and markets, canoeing, the amazing local food and so much more. The dogs also absolutely loved the place and the walks we went on.
Thant you so much for having us. and we hope to maybe come back next year!

  • We’ve loved our two weeks… Glorious sunshine, wonderful friends and a house to host it in that felt like home. Monpazier is a jewel. Thank you for allowing us to stay in your Dordogne oasis.

  • A wonderful stay here at Le Mas. The views from the pool are beautiful and the surrounding towns are so interesting and historic. Although we mostly stayed at home as everything we needed was right here. The pool was the focus of our days. We will be back.

  • Thank you so much for letting us stay in your most beautiful home. We feel most privileged to be allowed to be here. We love the house and pool, the area is perfect  – with lots to do. I agree with the previous families about Monpazier market etc. We would most certainly like to return if that’s ok?! On top of all the loveliness of the house and area, the weather was extremely kind which makes lazy pool days even more enjoyable.

  • We have had a glorious week here – three families enjoying the delights of Le Mas and the surrounding area. The pool was in use from early morning to late evening, complete with a swimming gala organised by the girls. The house is superbly equipped and lovely to stay in someone’s home. We would love to return.

  • We have of course had the most wonderful week at Le Mas and Le Petit Mas. The boys have spent hours happily lizard, snake and cricket hunting and then cooling off in the lovely pool. We have indulgently lazed in hammocks and done so little.

  • Just wanted to say thank you so very very much for letting us share your beautiful house; it is perfect pleasure and we feel blessed to have stayed here. The house is wonderful. The area luxurious and the atmosphere ‘pure pleasure’. A memory we will treasure.

  • We had the most marvellous time at your wonderful property.  Beautiful quiet location, fabulous pool, lots of areas to eat outside during different parts of the day – breakfast on the terrace looking out over the fields, lunch on the table under the vines, dinner immediately outside the main house looking over the pool and a sundowner on the porch of Le Petit Mas.  Gareth, the English speaking caretaker, was lovely and had good local knowledge.
Monpazier was fabulous.  Five minutes by car, this stunning fortified “bastide” small town had everything we wanted.  Great baker next to the church; a nice cafe and a lovely wine bar in the main square.  The market on Thursday morning was wonderful – try local tapinards and there was even a great Vietnamese stall selling fabulous food.  We also tried the Soirée Gourmande in the town square – these are run regularly during the season.  Bring your own plates and glasses and cutlery but enjoy communal eating.  It was slow but lovely.  Further afield we had half a day on the river kayaking (recommend taking your own picnic and drink and stopping on a bank en-route) and we visited Beynac-et-Cazenac and went round the fabulously restored Richard 1 era castle.
But most of all we ate lovely food at Le Mas, swam in the pool, read books in the garden and had one great day watching the Wimbledon Final on BBC1 courtesy of Le Petit Mas’ TV.

  • Our family clans have had the family holiday of their lives at Le Mas. It has been the perfect venue for us to celebrate Kelly’s 60th birthday. We have enjoyed many family meals around the pool and in Monpazier and Belves. We wanted for nothing and loved the authentic furniture and beautiful crockery. The farmhouse is so comfortable and suited for large groups, particularly families. Thank you for allowing us to share your beautiful home.

  • Thank you for letting us stay at Le Mas. We have been looking forward to our return since the moment we last left. You have created a beautiful house with a wonderful atmosphere. My city confined kids were really able to spread their wings. Thank you for leaving the house so well setup for us. I hope the next person is happy with how they find it.

  • We didn’t want to leave without thanking you for the special time we have had. Everyone, from the grandparents down to the pre-schoolers, really loved Le Mas and Le Petit Mas and I think we made the most of everything it has to offer from the pool to the ping-pong and the ‘plank tree’ as the children called it. I don’t think I’ve ever stayed anywhere as relaxing and homely for a holiday – it is obvious how much thought has gone into making it so.

  • Thanks for a wonderful stay – despite torrential rain, lighting storms and strikes! Can’t imagine a nicer place to have weathered it all.
